7th & 8th Grade Social Studies

 I. Expectations- The 5 B’s

A.  Be Prepared

B.  Be Prompt

C.  Be Polite

D.  Be Proud

E.  Be Positive

 

II. Rules

A.    Bring required books and materials to every class.

B.     Be in your assigned seat and ready to work when the bell rings.

C.     Raise your hand if you have a question or comment to make. Talking while the teacher or another student is talking is discourteous.

D.    Follow directions the first time they are given.

E.     Keep your hands and feet to yourself.

 

III. Grading and Assignments

A.    Every student must have a notebook and folder which should be used for Social Studies/ History class only. The notebook should include all notes taken in class.  The folder should contain syllabus (this sheet), and all graded assignments, tests, and quizzes – DO NOT THROW ANYTHING AWAY. Be sure to keep your notebook and folder neat and organized.  I may randomly collect them for a grade.

B.     Occasionally, I will offer all students opportunities for earning extra credit points. Take advantage of this! Oftentimes, the difference between letter grades is only a few points.

C.     Homework is due at the beginning of class on the due date that has been assigned. Any homework turned in late will be deducted 10pts/day. (See grading policy)

D.    Cheating on anything is a “0”.

E.     If you are absent from school for a certain number of days, you will have that same amount of days to make up any missed assignment(s). If you miss a class, it is YOUR responsibility to inquire about any make-up work or class notes that you missed.

F.      Your grade will be earned based on a variety of items: homework, quizzes, tests, projects, notebooks/folders, daily assignments

Grading Scale:

                        A+       100                              C+       81-82                           F          0-64

                        A         94-99                           C         76-80

                        A-        92-93                           C-        74-85

                        B+       90-91                           D+       72-73

                        B         85-89                           D         67-71

                        B-        83-84                           D-        65-66

 

 

 

IV. Discipline Policy

Consequences you will receive if you choose to not follow the rules and expectations:

A. Warning or seat rearrangement

B.  Write a list of solutions for this problem

C. 15 minute detention in classroom & parent contact

D. 30 minute detention in classroom & parent contact

E. 1 hour detention in detention hall & parent contact

*Severe disruptions will result in removal from the classroom

 

V.  Individual & Class Wide Rewards

A. Open seating on Fridays

B. Praise/recognition

C. Positive parent contact

D. The opportunity to learn
