Procedures
Mrs. Janovetz’s
Classroom Procedures
Coming
to class
Enter class quietly. Bring all necessary supplies to class.
You will not be allowed to go to your locker to get supplies.
Supplies that should be brought to class daily include; textbook,
Social Studies folder and notebook, all completed assignments,
pen/pencil, planner, and alternative reading book. Arrive to class
on time and quietly go to your assigned seat. Begin working on the
“2 Do 2 Day” or if there is no “2 Do 2 Day” written on the board
wait quietly for instruction. If you finish the “2Do 2Day” please
sit quietly. Do not discuss the “2Do 2Day” with classmates until I
start the discussion.
Supplies
Come to class prepared with all supplies. If for some reason
you need to borrow supplies, ask your neighbor to borrow first. If
unsuccessful, please be sure to ask me before class begins. Most
supplies are labeled and located on the tall bookshelf.
Please return all supplies at the end of class. You will not
be allowed to go to your locker for supplies or homework.
Tardy
If you enter the class late, you will need to have a signed
pass. If you are not in the classroom and in your assigned seat when
the bell rings with a signed pass, it will be counted as tardy.
Four or more tardies per semester earns you a detention per
school handbook. Please try to avoid being tardy.
If you are tardy, please go directly to your seat without
interrupting the class.
I will be sure to catch you up on what you have missed at my
earliest opportunity.
Seating
Classroom seating will be assigned by the instructor. If your
assigned seat interferes with your learning please let me know. If
the entire class follows all rules and expectations the entire week
(including coming into class quietly and working on the (“2 Do 2
Day”) your class MAY have the opportunity for Open Seating
Fridays. Open Seating Fridays will be announced at the beginning of
the class on Friday. If
arguing over a particular seat occurs, all students will return to
their assigned seats. Remember Open Seating Fridays are a privilege
and if misused will be taken away.
Notebook
& Folder
You must have a notebook and folder for Social Studies
ONLY. Your notebook should be divided, having the last 1/4 of it
strictly for “2Do 2Days”! You must keep your notebook and folder
neat and organized. Your name and class are to be labeled on the
front of both. Your folder should contain; syllabus (rules and
procedures), and all graded assignments, tests, and quizzes.
DO NOT THROW ANY PAPERS AWAY.
Note
Taking
You are expected to take notes during lecture and
discussions. At a
minimum, you should copy whatever you see on the board, or from
overhead transparencies. Tests and quizzes often require information
from lecture and discussions which may not be found in the textbook;
you are told or shown this information, and must record it as notes.
To this end, you should start class prepared to write down
the “2Do 2Day”, take notes, with pencil (pen) and open spiral
notebook. Begin all notes with date and chapter daily.
Homework
Yes, there will be homework.
I am willing to check your homework, however, you must raise
your hand, and I will come to you. On night’s that there is no
assigned work, you should spend time reviewing the day’s work, your
notes, the section or chapter we are in, and/or keeping your
notebook and folders organized.
Assigned homework is due at the beginning of the next class
unless noted otherwise.
Any homework turned in late will be deducted 10 percent a day per
school handbook (1 point per my grading on homework assignments).
You will not be allowed to return to your lockers for work or
supplies after the bell rings.
Finish
work early
If you finish your homework early, turn it into the tray
labeled with the corresponding home room number, return to your
assigned seat and do any of the following: I suggest reading the
next section in your textbook (it never hurts to be ahead), you may
read in the alternative reading book that is required of you to
bring to all classes, you may also read the Journal Star, Newsweek
magazines, or the National Geographic magazines. Please be sure to
put all reading material back where it belongs.
Computer
Please see handbook for computer/ email privileges.
Returning work
I will promptly grade and return all completed assignments as
soon as possible. Please
write your name on all assignments, test, and quizzes on the back of
your paper. I may have a
student return work and this ensures no one else will see your grade
but you and me.
Absent
from Class
On the bookcase there are manila folders with each homeroom
labeled on them. Your missed assignments will be in your class’s
folder with your name on it. Please see your folder prior to seeing
me. It is your responsibility to get the “2Do 2Days” and notes from
the missed classes from your classmates.
If your classmate is
uncooperative or you do not fully understand the assignment or need
help, see me after class.
If you know ahead of time you will be absent, please see me
for what you will be missing.
Your
Space/ Student’s Desk
Please have respect for your desk and all
classroom/school property. Please do not leave any of your
belongings beneath your desk.
This helps keep down on the clutter and ensures that your
belongings are not stolen or misplaced.
My
Space/Teacher’s Desk
Please respect my space and property. I have an open door
policy and am willing to discuss all matters with you; however this
needs to be done around class time, and not behind or in front of my
desk during class. If you want your work checked or have a question
on an assignment or test, raise your hand, and I will come to you.
Study Hall/ Home Room
Enter class quietly. Bring all necessary supplies to
class. You will not be allowed to go to your locker to get supplies.
Please be in your assigned seat when the bell rings. Bring all
necessary supplies to study hall and home room. Be sure you have
enough to do for the entire period. You will not be allowed to go
back to your locker. Do not come to these times without anything
to do!! These times are
quiet times for you to finish all homework. If you do not have
homework, or have completed all homework prior to study hall/
homeroom, bring a book to read. Writing notes and doodling are not
allowed.
Outside
of the classroom
Whenever we are not in the classroom (e.g. computer lab,
library, auditorium, gymnasium etc.) all rules and expectations are
to be followed. Always
remain quiet and in line when going to and from these places.
Bell
ding
When you hear the bell ding, I want your undivided attention.
Please stop what you are doing, face me and remain quiet for
further instruction.
Announcements
Anytime someone is speaking on the intercom, please be
quiet. The intercom is quiet
and when an announcement is being made it is important!
Emergency
When an emergency alert happens, remain calm and wait for
my instruction. (See sheets by the door)
No
Teacher
When I am not in the classroom, you are to remain quietly
seated and be busy working.
Visitor
If anyone comes to the door during class, remain quiet.
Class
discussion/ Questions
Listen to questions carefully and always raise your hand if
you have an answer, comment or question.
Show courtesy by listening when others are speaking.
Everyone will benefit if one person speaks at a time. Respect
others opinions even if you do not agree with them.
Conference
There may be times when you do not fully understand a topic
or may need help. Please see me so that we may arrange a time.
I am available after school until at least
3:45. You may also see me during any of my free periods,
study hall, or before school.
Passes
When you need to leave the classroom, I must give you
permission. You are expected to use the restroom during designated
times. In case of an emergency please see me. A pass will be issued
for going to the office, another classroom, or locker. If this is
the case, you will need to make up the time during lunch or after
school.
Dismissal
Remain seated until I dismiss the class. Be sure to check
your area and make sure that you have all of your things and it is
tidy. Exit the class
quietly.
Procedures ensure a safe and effective
environment. Thank you
for your cooperation and assistance.
