Prerequisites: Physical Science and Biology I

CHEMISTRY
Grades 10-12--Two Semesters

This course involves the study of the composition and properties of matter and the laws that govern the combination of elements. Laboratory experiences will supplement and reinforce topics. Prerequitsite: Junior/Senior and Algebra II/Geometry or currently enrolled.

Credit: 1

ADVANCED CHEMISTRY
Grades 10-12--Two Semesters

This course reviews and expands upon topics covered in first year Chemistry. These include atomic and molecular structure, nomenclature, conversions (atoms/molecules, mass, moles), and the periodic table. In addition, advanced topics are introduced. These include precipitation reactions, acid/base chemistry, organic chemistry, and redox reactions. More extensive and open ended laboratory work is performed than in Chemistry. Also, additional readings addressing issues in science (environmental, technological, etc.) are used.

PHYSICS
Grades 11-12--Two Semesters

To provide an opportunity for students to become familiar with the characteristics and associated reactions of force, matter, energy, simple machines, wave motion, electricity, magnetism. The student will have an opportunity to review physical laws and determine physical laws by doing experiments with hands on equipment in the laboratory and by demonstrations by the teacher. Prerequisite: Algebra II/Geometry or currently enrolled.
