WELCOME TO TROJAN TERRITORY

#trojanforce322

I am honored to serve as the Principal of Elmwood Elementary School. Elmwood Elementary has incredible students, a phenomenal staff, and involved families who come together to support our mission to provide a positive and supportive environment that vigorously develops the minds and character of our students.

Elmwood Elementary School is home to approximately 380 Pre-K through 6th grade students. We have a very dedicated staff who work diligently to provide the students of Elmwood with the best education possible. Our excellent elementary teachers teach a curriculum aligned to the Illinois State Learning Standards in self-contained classroom settings Kindergarten through 4th grade. Our 5th and 6th grade classes rotate between content specific classrooms. Teachers differentiate instruction for the needs of all students and are supported by our special education teachers, reading interventionist, math interventionist, and instructional coach. We are also a one-to-one school. Students are supplied with a either a Chromebook (2nd-6th) or a tablet (K-1) to help foster the skills a 21st century learner will need to be successful. Our Technology Integration Specialist assists classroom teachers and students integrating these learning tools into their daily practice.

Elmwood Elementary takes great pride in educating the whole child. Our Social Emotional Learning Specialist provides support through whole class, small group, and one on one conferences. Our school also promotes the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program. We do so by rewarding those students who go above and beyond the normal expectations set forth by our school wide behavior expectations outlined by the “4 Be’s” (Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe, & Be Ready to Learn). Students who go above and beyond are acknowledged once a month through an all school assembly and get to eat a special ”Student Leadership Lunch” provided by me! Our positive character program is a great way to encourage good behavior among our students, while working towards our goal of promoting healthy mental, social, and emotional growth for all our students.

Here at Elmwood Elementary, we understand how important a role the parents play in their child’s education. Communication is a key component. I encourage you to watch (not read) our monthly school newsletter broadcast, “Trojan Talk.” It is located on our school website and on YouTube under Elmwood Community Schools Media. Our school district is also very active on Twitter. Please follow #TrojanForce322 to stay updated on all the great happenings around our district. The teachers make regular contact with families as well. Parents may also get involved by attending our monthly Parents’ Club meetings. Meetings are at 6:00 PM on the first Tuesday of every month. I encourage you to attend meetings and become involved in our great school community.

Elmwood Elementary School aims for academic excellence while meeting the needs of individual students. Every staff member looks forward to working with our students throughout the school year. It is my honor to serve as principal of EES and work collaboratively with all stakeholders to foster a positive, supportive, and caring learning environment that truly puts students first. I look forward to continuing the tradition of academic excellence the Elmwood School District #322 is known for!

Yours in education,

Dimitri Almasi

MR. ALMASI - PRINCIPAL

This is my second year at Elmwood Elementary. Before coming to Elmwood, I was principal at Germantown Hills Middle School and taught and coached at Limestone Walters Grade School. I have strong ties to the Elmwood community and the education profession. Both of my parents are graduates of the Elmwood School District. My grandfather, the original Mr. Almasi, taught History at Elmwood High School, and coached the Trojan football team for many years. I am a proud alumni of Bradley University having obtained both my Undergraduate and Masters degrees from the hilltop. I enjoy watching my Trojan students participate in all the extra-curricular activities we offer. When you see me out and about, grab a water and a bag of our world famous popcorn and come say hi!
