WELCOME TO ELMWOOD JR. & SR. HIGH SCHOOL

Elmwood Jr. & Sr. High School serves approximately 320 students that work hard in the classroom, are active in extracurricular activities, and are willing to help maintain a safe, learning environment. We have a team of dedicated teachers and staff members that put students first in all decisions. We are focused on providing the necessary tools to prepare our students to be productive and successful members of the Elmwood community.

In an active partnership with parents and community, the mission of the Elmwood School District is to provide a positive and supportive environment that vigorously develops the minds and character of 21st Century learners. We are proud to have the vision that we offer an exceptional education, with high standards, and a tradition of excellence.

The Core Values of our District are important pillars that guide our efforts in making our school great:

  • Learning is a cooperative effort of students, parents, and community.

  • All students can achieve academic success when that are given the opportunity and when teachers are provided the proper resources and professional development.

  • Students should have high expectations of themselves and of others.

  • All educators should provide every student with an engaging and supportive, real-world learning environment.

  • All educators should challenge and motivate every student to reach his or her highest potential.

  • Students should be respectful, polite, and should demonstrate good citizenship toward self, peers, and faculty/staff.

  • Every student is a unique individual that learns in different ways

Besides the extracurricular, fine art, and club activities we offer for students, I’m proud of our students’ efforts in the classroom and willingness to help peers, staff, and the community. Our students use 1:1 technology to work collaboratively and to engage all available resources into their learning. The IDEA Studio opened the fall of 2018. Students can access 3D printers, graphic design software, video creation/editing technology, virtual reality, a CNC machine, robotic kits, and other items. IDEA stands for Innovation, Design, Engineering, and Art- the space has something for everyone. This year the IDEA Studio has expanded to help with the increase in video production, digital music creation, and graphic design needs.

Student and staff safety are non-negotiable. We have recently installed over 70 cameras around the building and have hired a school resource officer to help with securing our learning environment. I ask that parents and late arriving students enter through the Morgan Street entrance. Our dedicated office assistant, Michele, will buzz you into the office area where you can sign in.  We use a variety of communication methods: Schoolmessenger, email, Facebook, Twitter, websites, Google tools, TeacherEase, announcements in the Weekly Post, mailings, etc… Of course, if you have questions or concerns, you can call the office at 742-2851 or email me. Students are to keep cell phones turned off and in their lockers

It is my pleasure to serve as principal of Elmwood Jr/Sr High and to work collaboratively to create amazing opportunities for your student.

MR. McCOY - PRINCIPAL

I started my teaching career in 1992 as a science teacher for Elmwood CUSD#322. I enjoyed my classes, students, and extracurricular duties but decided to enter the world of administration. I spent 5 years as assistant principal of Canton HS before returning to Elmwood in 2017. Every year brings new challenges and excitement but I have a great staff to help establish a safe, learning environment for our students.

I grew up in Oak Hill, attended Edwards Grade School until 5th grade, and graduated from Elmwood High School in 1987. I ran cross country and track for Northeast Missouri State University and Western Illinois University while earning my BS in Biological Education. I completed my Masters in Educational Leadership from WIU in 2011. My wife, Mary and I have raised two Elmwood graduates: Jordan (class of 2013) and Derek (class of 2017). We currently added our Cockapoo puppy, Millie in the summer of 2018. We are all big supporters of the Trojans and love our Elmwood community.
