The Elmwood/Brimfield boys cross country team captured a Class 1A Runner-Up finish on Saturday, November 3, at Detweiller Park in Peoria. This is the 15th state trophy in program history. The Trojans ran as a pack, with a split from the first runner to fifth runner a blistering 23 seconds. Elmwood finishers include senior Jacob Brown (27th, 15:35.94), sophomore Luke Hoffmann (29th, 15:38.17), junior Alex Feller (56th, 15:57.37), senior Griff Inskeep (61st, 15:58.81), and sophomore Victor Lampe (125th, 16:44.11). Only 4 points separated the boys from defending their 2017 Class 1A State Championship, with Clifton Central edging out the Trojans 139-143. Each scoring runner in the top five ran a personal best, and according to Coach Gregg Meyers, this was the first time as coach that he has had five runners record a sub-16:00 3-mile race at the state meet. Congratulations and a job well done to the boys— they have a lot to be proud of! Go Trojans!
