Our Elmwood Staff Spotlight this week is Mrs. Lane Hampton. Mrs. Hampton is our Jr. High Special Ed teacher, Jr. High Student Council and HS Spirit Squad Advisor. She has been a full time teacher for 6 years ; however, she was a sub for 20 years prior to becoming a full time teacher. She chose special education because "I know that every child needs someone in their corner. I love the "aha" moments when a child understands new material. Everyone is capable of learning, we all just learn in different ways and at a different pace. "
Fall is her favorite season."As a tradition we take family pictures every fall and visit an orchard. We are trying new ones each year now. "

EB XC girls placed 2nd at the Eureka regional, led by 2nd and 3rd place finishes by Mya (17:34) and Bristol (17:35). Great team race today!!
The girls will run at the sectional meet at Maple Lane CC in Elmwood next Saturday.

Congratulations to the Elmwood/Brimfield Cross Country team on their 2nd place finish at Regionals today. The Trojans had 2 runners finish in the top 5: Danny Sharp placed 5th, and Cole Cahill was the meet champion with a time of 14:51. Both the boys and girls teams will be competing next Saturday at Maple Lane Country Club in the IHSA Sectional meet. Girls race at 10:00 and boys at 11:00.

English III students created literary museum exhibit displays as their first-quarter book report assessment. Several of these exhibits are on display at the Elmwood Humanities of Arts Center and are available for the community to see. Others are on display in the lower commons at EHS for parents and students to view.
Our goal is to share the books we read and promote literacy. Enjoy!

Seniors recently read "The Yellow Wallpaper" by Charlotte Perkins Gilman in Mrs. Fosters English IV class. Then they researched the historical context of mental health in the late 19th century compared to modern mental health stories reported in current news. They did a phenomenal job presenting their findings to their peers!

The Spanish 3 class finished their culture discussion on Latin food by making the Salvadoran food, Pupusas. They are thicker tortillas filled with various ingredients. We filled our pupusas with cheese and served them up with some salsa. Working with masa can be a little challenging, and there's a definite learning curve, but everyone enjoyed making them!
