To celebrate the ‘tradition’ of decorating this holiday…we’re making our 8th grade classroom, especially “Merry and Bright!” With the help of some 7th graders, Mrs. Miller’s 8th grade Homeroom, and even a few helpful high schoolers, “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas” in room 303. In addition, this past week Mrs. Miller’s 8th grade ELA students finished reading, “The Lottery, by Shirley Jackson, and discussing tradition as one of its major themes. Students reviewed symbolism and explored the symbiotic meanings behind the physical components of their own, individually chosen, River Rocks or pebbles, a key symbol in their reading. #TheTrojanWay

Today some of the 8th grades went the board and solved problems dealing with multiplying and dividing powers and negative exponents. Then they explained how to solve them with their classmates. They did awesome. We may have some future math teachers in this group.

It was indeed a special day at Elmwood Elementary. Our theme of the month is generosity and our students seized the day by taking their opportunity to give back. K-4 students made adoption ornaments and cat toys to support the animals at SAMS Rescue shelter in Hanna City, IL. And, our 5th-6th grade helped at The Dream Center in Peoria by decorating their gym for their annual holiday event. Fifth and Sixth grade students ended their day with a little fun at Elevate and our K-4 enjoyed a movie at the Palace Theater. We are extremely proud of the kindness and generosity demonstrated by our students today. Thank you to all those who made this happen today. On behalf of Elmwood Elementary, we wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving and Holiday Season. #TheTrojanWay
