A simulation of a grain elevator explosion. The fire is created when air is pumped into the 'elevator,' blowing lycopodium powder (like grain dust) into the air. There is a lit candle in the can. Scale this up = big problem.

Random student question: "Mr. Hollis, could you die from eating too many cough drops?"

Using menthol as the active ingredient, we grabbed the Merck Index, looked up menthol, and located the LD50 (rats). Rats are not humans, but it gives us a decent data point to work from. We found it would take 200ish bags, in one sitting, to reach the LD50 for a 100kg 'person.' I think we are safe.

Our Trojan Forge member of the week is Katie may. Katie is the one that you guys talk to when you place an order. She also makes sure that everyone is staying on task. She also stays in communication with the CAD team to see where projects are and for when they are done.

Today, we kicked off our Level Up attendance initiative with our friends at Farmers State Bank here in Elmwood. Students earn tickets for a drawing in May. Seniors Brayden Stevens, Evan Paterson, and Caleb Stevens earned a ticket for each bucket for perfect attendance in February. We will have more students add tickets to all the buckets throughout the week. We had a total of 64 High School and 25 Junior High students earn perfect attendance in February. #TrojanWay

I explained to my chemistry class last week that we were in a "red flag warning" due to drought and high winds. In other words, DO NOT BURN BECAUSE A FIELD FIRE COULD RESULT IN 20FT+ FLAMES!

First thing this morning - "Mr. Hollis, do you remember telling us about the red flag warning? Our neighbor tried to burn cardboard, it burned their entire lot, and almost burned ours."

Logan Griffith, a member of the Trojan Forge fabrication team, helped teach some junior high students how to change a cars oil. Having these younger students see an automotive process gives them a look to a future they might like to pursue.

Elwmood's varsity boys basketball season ends at Galva. Another fun season with some great memories. The hardest part every year is knowing that the seniors will never suit up in a Trojan uniform again.
