My homeroom just watched the Women's USA hockey team win in overtime over Canada. So fun to see kids jump out of their seats and to hear a cheer go up throughout the room. The Olympics is a great unifier.

Earth Science students have spent the past 2 weeks researching a biome and designing a product prototype that would help them survive in that biome. Their prototypes were all made of recycled materials and lots of tape and hot glue.
Today they shared their research and prototypes with the class! Here were some of the class favorites: a full body suit with insulation to keep warm in the taiga; an above ground shelter with mosquito protection to stay dry and safe in the tropical rainforest; and a first aid kit to treat dry skin and cactus pokes in the desert.

It’s in the mid-50s in central Illinois in February. A perfect day to get outside and podcast walk. How is light produced in glow sticks? How does sunscreen work? How do sunglasses work? @ChemForYourLife will tell us. We will jigsaw what we learned next time.

Stoichiometry is a difficult concept for students in chemistry. Suddenly we've combined all of the symbols and units of chemistry with the symbols of algebra (coefficients) and quite a bit of unit conversions. Small group work, some peer mentoring, is a good way to help students solidify their understanding. Answers are provided around the room for students to check periodically.
