Things were a little wild today for the Junior High...we welcomed The University of Illinois Wildlife Clinic's Animal Ambassadors! While all of the animals were amazing, it's safe to say Pesto the opossum stole the show!
On Wednesday, April 15, our Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors will be taking the ACT/PACT tests. As we strive for excellence, we can prepare today for the testing on Wednesday. #TrojanWay

Forensic entomology analyzes developmental stages of insect species and how they related to decomposing remains to estimate time since death. Today, we apply this to the "If Maggots and Murder" lab. (We are not using actual maggots.)
Different substances absorb heat in ways unique to them called the specific heat capacity, C. Heat heat is measured in calories or Joules, and is denoted as Q. The heat aborbed by water, with known C=1.0cal/(g*F), is the same as heat removed from a hot sample of metal. Since Qwater=Qmetal, we can idenfity the unknown metal by using the equation Q=m*C*deltaT. A calorimeter is used to accomplish this.

Elmwood Yearbook spent the morning visiting local businesses and selling advertisements for our sponsors page. We are so grateful to have such a supportive community, and we supported our very own Nighthawks Coffee Shop when we were finished.
Honors English IV went to Nighthawks Coffee Shop to discuss Where the Crawdads Sing. It was a great conversation using the feminist, psychoanalytic, and ecocritical lenses.

The shop is closed for the year!! We closed the order form Thursday morning. We appreciate every single one of your customers that had ordered from the shop , we have been able to grow as a team tremendously with the help of all of our customers. We hope to be able to keep growing the shop for years to come, and we hope that we will have more customers and more orders. All of the seniors had an amazing time with running the business and getting to be able to work with all of our customers and they are all very sad to leave but they know that they left an amazing foot print and they hope that the incoming team members can do the same and follow their foot prints. They all know what kind of impact that they left on the business, our customers, and even Mr. Grant. Thank you Trojan Forge

The Artemis II mission has been fascinating to follow. I'm so happy that my students, having studied gravity and planetary orbits (Copernicus, Galileo, etc.), will understand this explanation of what is happening.
